QUICK FACTS: Our beautiful library welcomes approximately 700 students at least 2 times every week. Students will have time to hear a read-aloud and select independent reading materials during one visit and during their other library time, they will be learning information skills on a variety of topics. In addition to approximately 20,000 in-house items, our library also has 6 computers for student use in locating library materials or curriculum-related research activities.

LIBRARY CLASSROOM AND CURRICULUM: To see more details about what is taught in the Library Classroom lessons, feel free to check out our 3-5 curricula! Our classroom focus is the responsible use of various types of information whether in print or online. Many of our classroom activities come from the Common Sense Media lessons for Digital Citizenship found at https://www.commonsensemedia.org/educators.

During each of their weekly 30-minute "Library Classroom" visits, students will learn about information skills and digital citizenship. Students do not directly receive a grade on their library activities, but will track their progress with a personal library "passport". We are excited to be adding student learning centers to our classroom times this year!

SCHEDULED LIBRARY VISITS:
During a "Book Selection" visit, your child will be in the library for a 30-minute period. He will listen to a librarian-selected read-aloud and then be permitted to sign out 2 books for personal reading. More materials may be signed out by students who need materials for a class assignment, such as a book report. Library books may be kept out for 1 week at a time. If your child wishes to keep a book longer, please have him bring it in to renew and we will extend the due date by another week. (If your child misses a book exchange or is unable to find a book during the allotted time, remind him that ANY student is permitted to come into the library in the morning between 8:40 and 9:00 to return forgotten books and sign out fresh reading material.) After students have checked out at least 1 book, they will be permitted to participate in one of our art/game/construction "maker centers" for the remainder of their book exchange time or to enjoy one of the current copies of our magazines.
