Building Advisory Committee (BAC) & League for Educational Advancement (LEA)

LEA and BAC

BAC stands for Building Advisory Committee. This committee is made up of a group of parent representatives that participate in a system of communication so that issues of concern have a formal process for reaching the building level administration. It is also used so that building administration can let concerned folks know how a problem is (or was) being addressed. There are grade level representatives and a chairperson who discuss BAC issues with the principal. This format allows for a coordinated and cooperative effort to assess and resolve problems that usually relate to the management functions of the school (like scheduling and communication). Parents can contact a BAC representative to share a suggestion or concern. Representatives are listed on the BAC Contact page.

Garnet Valley School District has adopted the League for Educational Advancement (LEA) process and structure at the district and building level as a strategy for collaborative decision making that supports student learning.

The GVES LEA Committee is comprised of administrators, professional and support staff, and parent representatives. The committee meets monthly to identify, address, and improve building issues related to student learning. The committee also conducts a yearly continuous improvement survey to gain input from all stakeholders.

The LEA committee will consider for review items that relate to key educational issues, affect a significant number of students, are not currently being changed or reviewed by another group, and do not relate to personnel, contract, or policy.

To contact the LEA team, you may contact one of the committee members, complete and submit a brief form in the LEA Suggestion Box in the office, or complete the Suggestion Form on our website. Suggestions will be considered at the following month’s meeting.

Essentially, BAC is established for the purpose of communication, while LEA is established to provide a format for studying and exploring solutions to problems. Although BAC and LEA are different, it is important to understand that both are used to solve problems.
